Dr. John Richard (Rick) McDuffie
Pastor, Teaching Elder

Rick is a native of coastal North Carolina, born in Southport and raised in the Cape Fear River region- specifically, Brunswick, Robeson, Bladen and New Hanover counties.  He graduated from John T. Hoggard High School in Wilmington, then continued his education at UNC Wilmington and Campbell University.  He earned a B.A. from Campbell, then an M.Div. and D.Min. from Southeastern Theological Seminary in Wake Forest, NC.  He has been in pastoral ministry since 1979, and has served churches in the two Carolinas and Georgia.

Rick is married to Debbie, a retired educator, and they have three grown daughters and seven grandchildren.

In addition to being a preacher and pastor, Rick is an accomplished musician.  He was a music major at Campbell, and took choral conducting courses while in seminary. In addition to singing occasional solos and leading congregational singing at Covenant, Rick is the "interim" choir director.

Rick has played in innumerable bands and ensembles of all styles, but loves jazz the most.  He plays well over a dozen different instruments, but is especially serious about guitar, bass, euphonium, and singing.  He's a longtime member of the Raleigh Concert Band and the Campbell University Wind Symphony.

Pastor Rick has other hobbies interests- among them are gardening, horsemanship, history, cycling, and carpentry/woodworking.
